Enjoy Autumn at Half Moon Bay's Biggest Pumpkin Festival

Considered the “World Pumpkin Capital”, Half Moon Bay is not just famous for its picturesque views of the country, but also for it’s annual art and pumpkin festival! Started in 1971, the festival was conceived after the Main Street Beautification Committee was formed. The all-volunteer, non-profit group was founded in the wake of the decay of Half Moon Bay’s Main Street. The main goal of the group was to raise money to fund projects that would help “beautify” Main Street. After surveying the area, the group realized that with the abundance of pumpkin patches, an old-fashioned festival was created for the visitors who came to the downtown area to pick their Halloween pumpkins.

Aside from the festival, there is a well-known event that kicks it all off! The Safeway World Championship Pumpkin Weigh-Off reminds and shows people the incredible significance of agriculture to the economy of San Mateo County. Pumpkins weighing more than 1,000 pounds are brought by proud growers and their families each year to the Weigh-Off.

There is so much to expect at the Annual Art & Pumpkin Festival. Aside from the wonderful display of giant champion pumpkins, there is also different kinds of entertainment to look forward to! There’s live music, a Great Pumpkin Parade, and a Haunted House!

There will also be a showcase of harvest-inspired arts and crafts and booths that will offer to sell tasty homestyle foods, premium wines, seasonal craft beer, pumpkin-infused ales, and pumpkin-flavored artisanal cocktails!

Farmer Mike, who is famous for being an incredible pumpkin carver,  will be showcasing his talent by sculpting huge pumpkins into unique masterpieces! There will also be pie-eating and costume contests, pumpkin carving for fun and so much more!
