Annually, Mavericks Invitational Surf Contest is being celebrated here as thousands of surfing aficionados and spectators gather as they witness surfers brave the world's biggest and most dangerous waves. For die hard surfers and hardcore fanatics of this sport, you have to begin by really being at home with the ocean because that is how you start to become a good surfer. Jamie Sterling, surfer from Hawaii, detailed in an article from sfgate.com that Mavericks is not like any other surf spots in the world. “You can't compare this to Hawaii. It's got cold water, giant sharks, giant waves and giant rocks. It's like nothing else” he said. “From the first time I surfed it, I was hooked”, this according to Ryan Seelbach, surfer, when asked about his first attempt to try surfing in Mavericks.
